The Mechanics

Phase 1

The Welcome

Entering the water and setting the stage for the congregation.

Position: Stand side-by-side, facing the crowd together.

Introduction: "Please share how Jesus has brought you to this moment."

Phase 2

The Confession

The verbal commitment before the burial and resurrection.

The Liturgy

"I believe... that Jesus is the Christ... the Son of the living God. He died and rose again. I embrace him as my Lord and Savior."
Phase 3

The Baptism

For the Baptizer

  • Firm grip on the arm, hand on upper back.
  • Take a wide step back as you lower them.
  • "Buried with Christ..."
  • "...Raised to a new life."

For the Baptizee

  • Pinch nose and grab opposite wrist.
  • Bend knees slightly to assist the descent.
  • Keep eyes closed and trust the leader.
