Serving Our Church

SERVE THE CHURCH

Thanks for your interest in serving at Forum Christian Church. Your involvement matters because your service does make a difference.  As you choose to serve, the impact of that service will change lives—for yourself, for the people you serve, and even for those who see you giving your time to help someone else.  It takes LOTS of volunteers to make Sunday happen as well as other events throughout the week. Are you willing to help? Our needs are as diverse as the people who attend our services. Find out how you can get involved and serve others in our church community using the list of opportunities below.

COFFEE SERVER

The coffee bar is a popular stop for many people on their way to a worship service. Given its popularity, it takes a handful of volunteers to make the coffee on Sunday mornings.   Being a coffee server is a great way to serve others and make someone’s Sunday morning a little warmer.  Your responsibilities would include: making coffee, setting out the coffee urns and all of the coffee materials with them,  keeping the coffee urns filled as the congregation comes in, and changing out the trash bags in the back of the auditorium.  Your commitment is a two-hour shift and a Sunday morning once a month.

If you are interested in serving in this area, please contact Jody Riley (jody@forumchristian.org) and have a nice friendly chat. A background check will need to be done. In addition, Jody willl direct you to Jack Sampson, the leader of the coffee crew, and others to show you the coffee service process before you're let loose on your own!

COFFEE CLEAN UP

The coffee bar is a hopping place prone to lots of messes!  We need your help in keeping it clean and inviting.  Part of your responsibilities will be to clean up the coffee urns, the coffee bar and the trash bags.

If you are interested in serving in this area, please contact Jody Riley (jody@forumchristian.org) and have a nice friendly chat. A background check will need to be done and you'll need to get a general knowledge of the building.

greeter

The greeters play an important part of what we do on Sundays. They are the first friendly face for guests and help create a friendly environment that makes all people feel welcome at Forum.  As a greeter, you'll be expected to hold the door open for guests, smile, greet them and answer any general questions that people may have about services, our congregation, and the church building. We will need you to be at the door approximately 15-20 minutes before service begins.  You commitment is for 25 minutes before a service 1-2 times per month.

If this role speaks to you, contact Jody Riley (jody@forumchristian.org) and have a nice friendly chat.  A background check will need to be done.  In addition, Jody will give you a tour of the building so you have a general knowledge of the building.

STARTING POINT

The starting point is where new people go with their questions and we could use your help in making them feel welcome.  Our starting point team helps lessen the confusion for people by providing information and letting guests know there is a "next step" for them here at Forum.  Part of your responsibilities will be to hand out welcome bags to first timers; answer any questions people have about our programs, events, and congregation; direct people to the iPad stations to sign up for events/studies; and escort guests to areas of the church they're unfamiliar with.  Your commitment is to be present once a month before the end of the service and be present until the start of the next service.

If this position is a great fit for you, contact Jody Riley (jody@forumchristian.org) to have a nice friendly chat. A background check will need to be done. In addition, Jody will give you a tour of the building and iPad station so you have a general knowledge of the building and how our sign up system works.

FAMILY HOST

We have new families every Sunday which is awesome!  Since they're new to the building, they don't know where anything is and that's where you come in!  We need your help to make families feel comfortable by taking these first-time guests and their families to their child's classroom.  For this role, you'll hang out in the child's check-in room until a new family shows up.  After a new family gets checked in, you'll walk first timer parents and their children to their subsequent classrooms and show them where they will need to pick up their child after their class is over.  For this position, you'll need to be present 15 minutes before service begins and can do this 1-2 times a month.

If you'd like to be a family host, please contact Jody Riley (jody@forumchristian.org) to have a nice friendly chat. A background check will need to be done.  In addition, Jody will give you a tour of the building so you have a general knowledge of the building.

bulletin facilitator

We want everyone to feel welcome and connected at Forum.  Our bulletin facilitators play a big part in that.  As a bulletin facilitator, you'll be the last friendly face guests see before they enter into service.  The bulletins help prepare people for worship as well as inform guests of how they can get connected to other members of the church.  For this role, you'll need to be present 15 minutes before service begins.

If you'd like to be a bulletin facilitator, please contact Jody Riley (jody@forumchristian.org) to have a nice friendly chat. A background check will also need to be done.

People Mover Driver

Drivers are incredibly important people that are vital to many ministries and those ministries’ effectiveness.  Forum has active ministries that are in need of drivers for short and long trips.  Without drivers we are not good stewards of the vehicles provided to us, thereby wasting fuel and time on extra vehicles and drivers.

In addition to driving from point A to point B, drivers will also need to check the vehicle is in good driving condition prior to driving; check the vehicle after the event; record the mileage, destination and ministry driven for in the log book; and communicate with the office about refueling and any issues with the vehicle.  These responsibilities are key to keeping our ministries rolling...literally!

If you'd like to become a people mover driver, please contact Jody Riley (jody@forumchristian.org).  You must have a CDL, get a background check done by the church, meet with one of the CDL drivers at the church to help you become familiar with the vehicle and test drive (if so desired) with one of the CDL drivers at the church.

Nursery

The nursery at Forum serves children from newborns up to 2 years of age. This space gives us the opportunity to begin making positive connections with our youngest members in the church. The goal is for the nursery to be a comforting, loving, and inviting environment for all our children at Forum. Every Sunday, we need many volunteers to care for and show God’s love to these little ones. If this is an area where you excel, or feel called to serve, we would love to see you join the team! All of our children’s areas operate on rotating schedules, so if you can serve once a month, every other week, or every Sunday we would love to see you join our team!

If you are interested in serving in this area, please fill out the volunteer application below and Leslie Potter will be in touch with you. We do complete a background check for each volunteer. We also ask that you review our policy and procedures for volunteers and sign our volunteer agreement form prior to filling your new role. Thank you for your willingness to serve in this special area of our ForHim Children’s Ministry.

children's leader

Connecting with kids is so crucial to the ForHim Children’s Ministry. Leaders work with children from infants to 5th grade depending on the area you feel called to serve. A leader for pre-school and above will deliver an engaging curriculum designed to connect kids to Jesus. They also have the opportunity to build relationships with these young children as they teach them from the Word. If this is an area you excel in and feel called to serve, we would love to have you be a ForHim Children’s Leader! All of our children’s areas operate on rotating schedules, so if you can serve once a month, every other week, or every Sunday we would love to see you join our team!

If you are interested in serving in this area, please fill out the volunteer application below and Leslie Potter will be in touch with you. We do complete a background check for each volunteer. children's helper

14-18 year olds

We love to get students involved in sharing God’s love with the ForHim Children’s Ministry! If you are a student that has a heart for service with our youth, we are excited for you to be a helper. In this role you will work alongside an adult leader to create a positive group experience for the kids. You will be a great example and serve as a role model for the children. All of our children’s areas operate on rotating schedules, so if you can serve once a month, every other week, or every Sunday we would love to see you join our team!

children's worship leader

We believe that worship is vitally important to the children in the ForHim Ministry. We want all of our children to develop a love for worshipping God each Sunday as part of their Sunday School classes. If you have a gift for praise and worship, we would love for you to share that with the Children’s Ministry! There are three different age groups that need worship leaders: Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd Grade, and 3rd-5th Grade. If this is an area where you excel, or feel called to serve, we would love to see you join the team! All of our children’s areas operate on rotating schedules, so if you can serve once a month, every other week, or every Sunday we would love to see you join our team!

The hangout

The Hangout was created as a place for children of parents that serve on Sunday morning. This is a place for them to “hangout” after they have attended Sunday School. This experience is engaging and a great opportunity for kids to enjoy fellowship with one another. If you want to facilitate and interact with kids in a relaxed environment, the Hangout is the place for you to service!

CHildren's check-in

Hundreds of kids are checked in to our Nursery and Sunday School classes every week at Forum. Volunteers are needed to assist new and returning members in getting checked in and making this as seamless a process as possible. If you enjoy engaging with new people and feel comfortable operating technology, the check-in might be the perfect opportunity for you to serve! All of our children’s areas operate on rotating schedules, so if you can serve once a month, every other week, or every Sunday we would love to see you join our team!

If you are interested in serving in this area, please fill out the volunteer application below and Leslie Potter will be in touch with you. We do complete a background check for each volunteer. auditorium prep

The auditorium is a place where we gather together as a church body to sing songs and learn more about Jesus.  We want the space to be clean and inviting to everyone on Sunday mornings which is where you come in!  The auditorium prep team works their way row-by-row through the auditorium picking up trash, old bulletins and communion cups.  In addition, they ensure there is a pen and a supply of Connect cards in each chair back pocket and a Bible under every other seat.  These tasks usually take 45 min to an hour for 2 people, so if your team was larger, it would obviously take less time. Your commitment is for once/week every other week.  This is a great behind-the-scenes opportunity for a family/couple/individual and can be done almost any time during the week.

If you are interested in serving in this area, please contact Kim England (kim@forumchristian.org).

deacon help

There are many things that go into keeping the church building in good shape. Do you have skills that you could use as a means of worship at Forum? The deacons at Forum need help with many indoor and outdoor jobs. If you are skilled at plumbing, HVAC, roofing, painting, flooring, or light construction we could use you on occasion to help keep Forum looking good. The time required to volunteer is usually pretty minimal. Depending on the trade you may be asked to help once or twice a year for a few hours.

Contact Tim Klimek (tmklmk@yahoo.com) to find a place to use your gifts.

MOWING Team

Do you enjoy spending time outdoors? Is your lawn the belle of the neighborhood? Are you interested in spending time with other men at Forum in a team atmosphere and serving the church simultaneously?  If so, we’d love to have you on one of Forum’s mowing teams. The team takes care of mowing the grass with riding mowers, weed eating, and cleaning up the clippings using leaf blowers. It is roughly a 2-3 hour time committment for 1 day a month.

Contact Sean Zullo (sp_zullo@icloud.com) to learn more about serving on one of Forum’s mowing teams.

worship team

Our Sunday morning worship services would not be possible without our incredible team of volunteers to help lead worship, run sound, control the lyrics, operate the camera, etc.! Although there are many different roles, each one is equally important in helping people connect to Jesus Christ.

There are several ways that you can serve on the worship team: instrumentalist, vocalist, lyric operator, camera operator, video switcher, audio engineer, and stage hand! The time commitment for instrumentalists, vocalists, and audio engineers is 1-2 hours on Thursday evenings, and from 7 am - 12:15 pm on Sunday mornings. The time commitment for lyric operators, camera operators, and video switchers is 7:30 am - 12:15 pm on Sunday mornings. Auditions and training are a part of the process to serve on the worship team.

If you are interested in joining the worship team, please submit an application to begin the process.

All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it
